WENGER OUT!!

After two years of protest by the Arsenal fans, Wenger finally decides to quit as Arsenal manager at the end of the season 2017-18. Wenger was named the manager of Arsenal in October 1996. It took him two years to win his first title for the club. He won the league and FA Cup double in 1998. Looking back at the 2003 season, Arsenal were Invincible. Yes, you read it right. They did not lost a game under him that season. This was a feat achieved after 115 years.Arsenal run of 49 games unbeaten came to an end when they lost to Manchester United in October 2004.

You must have heard about Emirates Stadium (The home of gunners). The stadium is standing today is because of this man. The bank agreed to fund for the stadium but only if Wenger is staying for five more years. Wenger agreed to the contract and signed the extension. During this tenure he turned down the offers from the major clubs in Europe.

From his AS Monaco days Wenger has eye for young talent. Ashley Cole, Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persi are a few examples of great talents discover by Arsene Wenger. Wenger has always remained focus on developing the youth system. The current example can be of Aaron Ramsey. He is the backbone of Arsenal midfield.

Wenger lost his plot after 2006 UCL Final against Barcelona. The club did not win a single trophy in almost nine years. This drought came to an end in 2014 when Wenger guided Arsenal to FA Cup glory. Arsenal won FA Cup in 2015 and 2016 but the winning the league or performing well in Champions League was still a distant dream.

This was the time when the Gunners began to lose their cool. They came up with the protest #WengerOut. This protest was not only seen in the football fields but also during the cricket and tennis matches. The fans started losing faith in Wenger. This was high time and so Wenger decides to quit. “After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season,” Wenger said in a statement.

Wenger is of the best managers that English Football has seen. Although he has never lead his side to UCL glory, he will be considered one of the best managers. He was the one who brought the idea of proper training and diets of player in late 1990's, he is the one whose team was Invincible and he is the one who is responsible of a club's Stadium.

Let us join our hands and hope that the Arsenal fans give him the farewell he deserves.
