FIFA WORLD CUP 2018

One of the biggest sporting event will be witnessed once again this year. This is the time when every football fan starts idolizing their country's superstars rather than their supporting club hero. Started way back in 1930, this tournament has never failed to entertain its viewers. Excitement and expectations will be on a high but there will be one winner in the end. With two remaining for the start of the World Cup, lets look at a few potential candidates for winning the same.

BRAZIL- Brazil is the most talked nation when it comes to the World Cup. They have been crowned as champions (for a record) five times. They have been dominating this game from the time when it started. Last time in 2014 they lost to Germany in the semi-finals 7-1. This was a humiliating defeat in their own soil. But Brazil are upbeat of winning the title for the sixth time this year. With Neymar recovering from an injury at the right time and good form of  his fellow forward Jesus of Manchester City make Brazil as one of the contenders of this years world cup. Moreover, they have a formidable midfield with Barcelona star, Coutinho, adding attacking strength.

GERMANY- The mighty German team will be looking forward to become world champions once again and equal Brazil's record of winning the world cup for most number of time. In 2014, they were champions by beating Argentina by one goal to nil. Unlike other teams, Germany has too many options to be dependent on any one player. Manuel Neuer has recovered in time and is fit to keep the goals for his nation. Germany won the 2017 FIFA Confederation Cup after a 1-0 win against Chile.

FRANCE- France have got one of the best squads to win the World Cup. But, this is the story of every year. They fail to win as there players fail to perform in the crucial games. Similar was the case in 2016 Euro Cup Final when they lost to Portugal 1-0. France must try to get most out of there players in order to win the Cup. Manchester United's Paul Pogba and PSG's star man Kylian Mbappe are the key for France's success. Grizemann and Dembele are also the stars to watch out for.

SPAIN- Spain crashed out in the group stage of World Cup 2014 and in the 2016 Euro Cup they lost to Italy 2-0 in the knockout stage. Although they are going through a bad run, but they have the quality players to help them win the World Cup. During the qualifiers Spain concede only 3 goals and scored 36 goals and progressed by finishing at the top of the table. With Premier League star goal kepper David De Gea and the godfather Andreas Iniesta Spain are having a squad to challenge any team in the World Cup. They also have the most stable back four comprising of Carvajal, Ramos, Pique and Alba.

BELGIUM- Being defeated by Argentina in the quarter finals of 2014 World Cup, Belgium posts a difficult challenge in this years World Cup. They are placed with England in Group G and are expected to finish at the top of their group. Eden Hazard along with Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne adds the star power that is required. Romelu Lukaku and Dries Mertens are good enough to play strong and attacking football along side Hazard.

ARGENTINA- Most of the pundits are expecting them to crash out in the quarter finals but with Lionel Messi you cannot be sure. He single handedly dragged Argentina into the 2018 World Cup. So it will not be surprising if he does the same during the World Cup. Besides Messi Argentina also have the attacking prowess of Augero, Dybala, Di Maria and Higuain but these starts have failed to perform for their national team. Argentina had a major set back before the start of the World Cup as their first choice goal keeper Sergio Romero was ruled out due to knee injury.

The tournament will be involve 32 teams and this is the first World Cup to be hosted by an estern European country. Let us hope that all the teams play with the true spirit of the game and this FIFA World Cup 2018: Russia be a memorable one.
